Is your child finding reading hard?

I can help!

Why is reading so important?

Reading is the cornerstone of learning…

When our kids can read, they can explore any subject they choose - yes… even maths!

Reading supports confidence, empathy and independence…

We learn so much from books and stories, and reading gives our kids the chance to explore situations and experiences they haven't tackled yet.

Reading doesn't just open books, it opens the entire world…

Letting our kids read street signs, food wrappers, bus timetables and so much more!

Learning to read is hard…

It doesn't happen over night.

In fact, the average child (though really, there's no such thing) will take around 3 years to go from their first letters to becoming a confident reader.

I'm not going to teach you a quick fix. There's no such thing and, quite frankly, anyone telling you they can teach your child to read in two weeks is lying to you.

Instead, I'm going to teach you HOW your child learns to read, and give you all the games, strategies and advice you need to support them, every step of the way.

The 6 Steps to Reading

When we teach our kids to read, we don't just want to look at the basics - blending sounds to read words.

Instead, we want to make sure our kids grow into holistic readers who understand what they read and can 'get out' of reading just as much as they put in.

I focus on 6 steps that take our kids from their very first interest in words all the way to being confident, independent readers who love every minute!

Step one: Communication

Helping your child speak, listen and understand so they have a firm foundation to support their reading journey.

Step two: Blending

The core skill of reading! This is the ability to play with sounds, putting them together (for reading) and breaking them apart (for spelling)!

Step three: Phonics

Learning the sounds each letter makes and building confidence to recognise them instantly.

Step four: Fluency

Spotting and remembering Tricky Words (also known as
red/heart/non-decodable words) and High Frequency Words to get our kids reading more fluently, and to take the pressure off their blending skills.

Step five: Vocabulary

Understanding what words mean and learning new words from
context, so they're constantly learning and improving, which helps with the next and final step…

Step six: Comprehension

This is what we're really working towards - the point at which
children understand what they've read and are able to take information from it, opening the entire world up to them and enabling them to learn whatever their
heart desires!

Get support with every single step!

Let's get your little one reading!

I want reading with your child to be as easy, so here's a way to make their phonics book as useful and interesting as possible, for free!

I've included a pdf with step-by-step instructions on how to get the most out of your child's reading book, in as stress-free a way as possible…

There's also a video walkthrough to show you exactly how I would use these books in school too!

This is the guide I wish I'd had when I first started teaching…

So now I'm sharing it with you, completely free!
